Our commitment

Strange Water is committed to making this site usable by everyone, regardless of ability, device, or situation. We treat accessibility as part of building the site, not as something added at the end.

Conformance status

This site aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA — the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act and by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. We believe the site is substantially conformant, with the exceptions listed below.

How we tested

Last reviewed August 13, 2026, by self-evaluation. Every page was tested with automated checks (axe-core, WCAG 2.0/2.1/2.2 A and AA rules) and by hand: keyboard-only navigation, visible focus on every control, color contrast measured against the actual rendered colors, heading structure, and behavior at 320 px width and at 200% zoom.

What we have done

  • — Body text meets a 4.5:1 contrast ratio; large text and controls meet 3:1
  • — Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard alone
  • — A visible focus ring that holds up on cream, on green, and over photography
  • — A skip link to the main content as the first stop in the tab order
  • — Meaningful images carry alt text; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers
  • — Touch targets are at least 44×44 px
  • — Animation is dropped for anyone whose system asks for reduced motion
  • — The looping background on the home page can be paused where it plays on its own
  • — Text can be resized to 200% without loss of content or function

Known limitations

  • — The map on the Stockists page is supplied by OpenStreetMap. We control how it is labeled and when it loads, but not what is inside it.
  • — Checkout currently hands off to our Shopify store, which is outside this site and follows Shopify’s own accessibility work.
